There is one topic that has been striking a chord with me- bullying!
I have been dancing around the topic as it is something I have both had done to me as well as been a part of and how does one really comment on something of this nature when you are guilty of it yourself!
There has been a disturbing rise in teenage suicide over the past few years and the birth of social media is partly to blame!
Before the worst thing we could do was write nasty letters and cheer awful names but now you can destroy another human being on an entire new level!
A few years ago a friend of mine had her Facebook account hacked by her ex boyfriend and a personal and private image was posted on her Facebook page for the world to see- this invasion of privacy is truly evil. A lesser person could have tried to end their life- this has happened to others. It is not okay to EVER do this to people.
I have been run down in group chats- that I have been apart of, had friends discuss me with their parents along with other friends and then tell me about it- this brings to mind one quote:
‘God didn’t make us monsters. We did that ourselves’.
We are all guilty of discussing and judging people but have you really stopped to think what this can do to someone- the way it makes them feel, how they see themselves.
In Pitch Perfect the character Fat Amy- calls herself Fat before skinny girls do behind her back- while this post touches on bullying in general I want to look at self bullying.
What names do you call yourself, what horrible thoughts go through your mind?
-I am fat, I hate my life, people don’t like me, why do my friends always turn on me, what is wrong with me, why are the guys I meet all such assholes…the list goes on.
With the amount of pressure we put on ourselves it’s no wonder when others do it, it feels like we are going to snap!
I want to put this idea forward to everyone, from today only say and think kind and encouraging things about yourself & try only lift up the people around you and in your life- you have NO idea what things they think and say to themselves!
