We have all fantasised about righting a wrong by doing karma’s dirty work.
It is normal to want to hurt the people that hurt you, I have been friends with someone who was completely consumed by it. The latter point is of course less normal.
One of the best lines I have heard about the idea of revenge is ‘Wanting revenge is like holding a hot coal in your hand and expecting someone else to get burnt’.
Revenge can only end in hurt and in your own suffering. I am what you call a habitual forgiver- it is sadly just in my nature to forgive those that hurt me no matter how many times it happens- It is sad because I get hurt and OFTEN! This is of course my own fault as you can forgive but once burned you should never forget but his can also make you kind of paranoid.
It is a vicious cycle of hurt, pain, repeat!
When I was younger I adored the TV series Dharma and Greg and the other day I remembered a line that Dharma always used- ‘Just put it in a bubble and blow it away’, again this is easier said than done but it is the best option. Hate, anger, hurt, pain and revenge only have one friend in common and that is misery!
We all have a choice every single day to decide our fate and who we are and how we feel, revenge is a choice as much as happiness is.
I suffer from the gloomies probably more than most but from today I am going to make a different choice- to see the good, the positive and embrace my happy!
